Quarter Master Central
Quartermasters came to form at one of the greatest bowling centers in Louisville, KY., Rose Bowl Lanes. The league was the Greater G.E. Mens league. Even though: the center has been closed and demolished, the league has disbanded, and the bowlers have moved on to other leagues, Quarter Masters live on in other leagues around the city.
Quartermasters all started with team Striking Concepts, who decided they would gamble and gamble big, a quarter a game. Yes $.25 cents was the wager for each team member. Each member would pay $.25 to the team member who had the highest scratch game of the team, but you had to qualify with a 200 game to get the quarters.
Word got out and others wanted to join in the high stakes game. This began the official Quartermasters. They grew and grew fast. At one point and time the roster had over 80 guys and several Queets. On a good night a winner could walk out with enough quarters to make a stop at McDonald's for a Big Mac meal.
Quarter Masters still play the high stakes game in the Louisville Metro Men league and a few other leagues across the city. Get your quarters out and come bowl your 200+ game and hope you out score the rest for the stack of quarters.
Thanks to those original Quartermasters for starting this high stakes pot.
